Peace of mind for patient moms.
Waiting Room Watchers provides trained caregivers to watch children in hospital waiting rooms, giving families peace of mind during medical visits. With a focus on safety and compassionate care, this program reduces stress and supports families when they need it most.
About the Program
Waiting Room Watchers is a childcare service designed to support families during hospital visits. Our Watchers provide a safe and engaging environment for children in waiting rooms, offering activities and games to keep them entertained while caregivers attend to medical needs.
This program ensures children have a positive and fun experience, making hospital visits less stressful for families. Waiting Room Watchers is dedicated to creating a supportive and worry-free environment during challenging times.
Exclusive Support for Cancer Patients and Members
We are proud to offer Waiting Room Watchers as a dedicated service for cancer patients receiving care at University Hospitals and for enrolled members of My Sister's Keeper. This program is designed to provide much-needed support during challenging times, ensuring children are cared for in a safe and engaging environment while caregivers focus on their health or their loved ones' medical needs.
Currently, this service is exclusively available at University Hospitals and to our organization’s members. However, we are actively working to expand Waiting Room Watchers to other hospitals and care facilities in the near future, bringing this valuable resource to even more families in need.
We are committed to easing the stress of hospital visits and supporting families through compassionate care. Stay tuned as we grow this program to make it accessible to a wider community.
What happens on the day of serivce?
On the day of service with Waiting Room Watchers, the experience is designed to provide reassurance and support for both the mother and child. Here’s how it unfolds:
-
Pre-Visit Confirmation Call: Prior to the scheduled appointment, the Waiting Room Watcher calls the mother to confirm the appointment details. During this call, the caregiver verifies the arrival time, waiting area location, and any special instructions regarding the child.
-
Arrival and Check-In: Upon arrival, the mother and child check in with the caregiver in the designated waiting area. The caregiver introduces themselves, creating a welcoming and secure environment, and reviews any specific instructions from the mother, such as activity preferences or dietary restrictions.
-
Transition to Care: Once the mother is ready, she heads to her appointment, leaving her child with the caregiver. The caregiver engages the child with age-appropriate activities, providing a calm, enjoyable experience. Comforting items, toys, and books may be available to make the child feel at ease.
-
Real-Time Updates (Optional): If desired, the caregiver can provide the mother with periodic updates on her child’s activities and well-being via text or call, ensuring the mother remains informed and reassured during her treatment.
-
Appointment Completion and Pickup: When the mother’s appointment concludes, she returns to the waiting area to pick up her child. The caregiver provides a brief summary of the child’s time and any highlights from their experience together.
-
Sign-Out: The mother signs out with the caregiver, completing the session. The caregiver makes sure all belongings are returned and addresses any final questions or feedback.
Watchers are not permitted to leave the hospital or the designated area without the patient's permission.
