Overview:The Empowered to Empower program is a companion initiative to the Big Sister Program, designed to provide cancer warriors (survivors) with the skills, tools, and resources they need to support newly diagnosed individuals while fostering their own personal and professional growth. This program focuses on building emotional intelligence, advocacy skills, and self-leadership, enabling survivors to use their experiences to uplift others while healing and empowering themselves.

Program Objectives:

  1. Support and Development:Equip cancer warriors with skills to mentor and advocate for newly diagnosed individuals effectively.
    Foster personal growth by addressing emotional and psychological challenges stemming from their cancer journey.

  2. Empathy and Emotional Intelligence:Train participants in active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution to enhance their ability to provide meaningful support.

  3. Advocacy and Leadership:Teach advocacy techniques to enable participants to raise awareness, navigate healthcare systems, and champion resources for others.

  4. Self-Healing and Empowerment:Provide workshops focused on self-care, resilience, and overcoming the emotional scars of cancer, turning pain into purpose.

  1. Skill-Building Workshops:Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and managing emotions to connect with and support others effectively.
    Advocacy Training: Navigating healthcare systems, amplifying the voices of those in need, and influencing positive change.
    Resilience and Self-Care: Strategies for balancing giving to others with personal well-being.

  2. Peer Mentorship Training:Structured guidance for warriors on how to mentor newly diagnosed individuals with empathy and professionalism.
    Role-playing scenarios to practice real-world mentorship challenges.

  3. Healing Circles:Group sessions led by counselors or facilitators, allowing participants to process their own emotions, share experiences, and build camaraderie with other survivors.

  4. Personal Development Projects:Assignments such as creating advocacy campaigns, planning community outreach events, or building resource guides for cancer support.

  5. Certification and Recognition:Participants receive a certificate of completion, recognizing their commitment to mentorship and advocacy.
    Opportunities to join leadership roles within My Sister’s Keeper or represent the organization in public forums.
